Since its foundation, ASTRON original charge was to develop and operate radio telescopes. Following this aim after more than six decades ASTRON developed different fruitful facilities, as the single dish Dwingeloo telescope (1956) or the Westerbork array telescope (1960-1970). A recent and innovative phase has been started with the realisation of the giant LOFAR telescope (2010), but a more ambititous and revolutinary step for ASTRON and radioastronomy is coming in the near future: the SKA telescope.
